Based on the powerful two-stroke 3-cylinder H1 production bike, the H1R featured a dry clutch and large-bore carburetors. During 1970, its first full year of GP racing, the H1R finished 2^nd overall in the 500cc class. Thereafter it was a regular podium finisher.
